Happy Holidays! Can you believe that 2012 is almost over? Wow! Well that means that just brings us closer to reveal of the “Designer’s Challenge – It’s All About Love” challenge. Let’s meet a new challenger! Deanna from 5-9 Events! Robin and I had the pleasure of meeting Deanna back in September of last year when we volunteered with Operation Shower. She is sweet, lovely + charming. Meet Deanna from 5-9 Events!
1. What is your favorite color?
When I was a kid it was purple, but now that I’m older I find myself loving neutral, warm tones.
2. What is the best bargain you ever got?
I got a beautiful white buffet off craigslist for $80 – delivered! I’ve used it for several parties, plus it stores all my serveware which previously had no home!
3. Are you a beach or pool person?
I’m not much of a swimmer. I love going to the beach but hate the ‘sand aftermath’. is there an option for sand-less beaches? No? well I guess I’m a pool person then 🙂
4. Do you still ride roller coasters?
I haven’t been to an amusement-park sans child since about 2004. But if I got the opportunity now, I’d totally ride them!
5. What is your favorite vacation spot?
I went to San Diego last spring and loved it. Beautiful weather, great attractions, good food. I’d go back in a heart beat.
6. What is your most embarrassing moment?!
So I have to pick just one, huh? let’s see…
So it’s my senior year of high school. I’m sitting in Spanish IV, right next to my crush, who I’ve only liked for the past 6 years or so. Two of my best friends are right behind me. All of a sudden I hear hysterical laughter from them. When I turn to find out what was so funny, they can barely speak and are almost crying. Finally, one of them calms down and whispers to me that I have ‘plumber’s butt’. And it was a severe case I might add. Probably 4-5 inches of my rear end was peeking out from my jeans. Mortified is not the word. I don’t think my crush noticed, but who knows? Maybe that’s why we never dated!
7. What is your favorite sound?
The silence when both my husband AND baby are sleeping. I love basking in the peace and quiet.
8. What would you describe as your design style?
Eclectic and ever-evolving. I love unique parties with unexpected elements. I never used to be a fan of vintage or rustic, but I find myself more drawn to them now. To me the most important design element is that the party reflects the host or guest of honor.
9. Who is your biggest inspiration?
This is cliche, but so-be-it. I would have to say my Mom. She went back to school to get her degree when I was a child. Oh by the way, she commuted an hour to and from school during the week, all while working full-time, and being a wife and mother to a 6 and 16-year old. She’s a superstar and amazes me. She taught me to always give your best, no matter what the task. And even though she stopped working in the corporate world several years ago, she stays busy. My mom is the most compassionate person and fills her days with volunteer work, visiting the sick and bureaved, taking care of family and just standing in the gap for anyone that needs her. Is it any wonder she’s my biggest inspiration?
10. If you could have a theme song, what would it be?
Right now I’d say ‘I was here’ by Beyonce. Really, anything by Beyonce.
11. If you could pick any reality TV star that relates to you, who would it be?
Ok, so this may be surprising, but I would say Bruce Jenner, lol. Why, you ask? I like to think of myself as the voice of reason. And in my social circles I’m usually the mediator, because I want everyone to be happy. So yeah, I can totally relate to Bruce. Calm in the midst of chaos 🙂
12. What’s a motto you live by?
What you do in the dark will eventually come to the light. Basically I try to have integrity even when no one’s watching.
Deanna’s favorite event is her Counting Costume Party. Here is what she says about it, ” I love it because it was a different take on Halloween and can be used for birthdays or other parties throughout the year.”
