{Real Soiree} The Love Boat – A Valentine Day Voyage

I’m so excited to share with you our latest little soiree:

The Love Boat:  A Valentine’s Voyage

I wanted to do this party for the children on our block because its cold outside and the kids are rarely out playing these days.   So I thought it would be nice to get them all together for a little fun card making party so that they could make valentine day cards for their friends.  It all started with the theme, the Love Boat was one of my favorite shows growing up and I thought it would make such a cute theme for the party but I knew I had to make it “kid” appropriate.  I hope you find some sweet Valentine Day party inspiration for your celebration! {The Décor}I love using props in my children’s parties and this one was no different.  The party guests were greeted with a kid sized wooden sailboat.    We actually reused wood from my daughter “Kung Fu Panda” party to make this boat and an old tablecloth for the sail.   Once again, my brother in law aka “prop master” constructed it.  Since we reused the wood this actually cost NOTHING to make.  The kids were so excited to take a picture with the captain’s hat and the sign.  We also used red and white lanterns with netting throughout the room.Here are a few of our captains!

I set up a table a table for the kids to make cards for their friends.  I place premade cards throughout the table along with supplies so that the kids could replicate them, of course making their own additions.  The mini mailboxes came from Target.  I wanted to use them in a different way than what I have seen before because they are pretty popular, so I decided to place the card making supplies (glue stick, glitter glue, stickers, scissors, etc) for each child in their mailbox and personalized them with their name.  We left lollipops on the tables so that the kids could add a little sweet something to each card.  The kids had a great time.  Lesson Learned: Instead placing the a bowl of lollipops on the tables, we probably should have handed them to the girls one by one as they finished each card because the blow pops were the first thing that the kids went for! Ehhh, its only one day right?

{The Desserts}

The backdrop for the dessert table was made using a few table runners that I found at Target. I attached them together using fishing wire.  The Purple Pug made an absolutely adorable banner that we strung across the backdrop and the Love banner in front of the table.  The treats were just absolutely great.  Sweet-T-Cakes made these beautiful and delicious cookies.  The fondant QUEEN Lynlee Petite Cakes made this gorgeous cupcake toppers in the shape of the boat, life vest and more. They are just so beautiful I couldn’t believe it.  Cakes and Kids supplied these lovely cupcake containers, paper straws and sprinkles (I really do have admiration for all of you who can make perfect round cake balls, it is NOT my gift) but the sprinkle definitely helped camouflage that and tasted great by the way!  I purchased the push-up pop containers from Cupkate Event Designs a while back and finally had an opportunity to use them.  Kids love m&m’s so it worked out perfectly.  I also hooked up some movie popcorn with some blue sugar sprinkles and dropped a handful of valentine day m&m’s on top.  Yum!

Love, Life Sweetest Reward…

[...] The planters I used are stable enough for indoor use, but outdoors on uneven ground, they are a little rocky.  I’d suggest going a little bigger and/or using a wider based bucket/planter.  Also, beware of windy days! ; D Here is a link to Chris’s tutorial on Celebrations At Home Here is mine from The Love Boat [...]
